Family Adoption Program

The Family Adoption Programme (FAP) at our institution serves as a vital bridge between theoretical knowledge and real-world medical practice. This program, mandatory for all our medical undergraduate students, immerses them in community health through field practice and family health studies. Our qualitative exploratory study involving faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and field workers highlighted the program’s potential benefits, including gaining insights into patients’ living conditions and inspiring students for their future medical careers. However, challenges such as transportation issues in government colleges and faculty shortages in private institutions were identified. Building trust, managing expectations, and determining the right time to initiate students into FAP emerged as key areas for improvement. We are dedicated to addressing these challenges, ensuring our students receive a comprehensive, community-focused medical education.
